Position Summary:

Project Managers play a key role for maintaining and extending PTV NuStats reputation as a leading edge, social science research consultancy.  A project manager adheres to PTV NuStats project management and research processes and manages client expectations and activities of project teams.  This position requires demonstrable project management skills, experience in setting and meeting project objectives, and proven success in determining the best use of resources and staff time to meet those objectives. 

The ideal project manager serves as an in-house expert in one or more of the following research areas: developing research designs, creating questionnaires, performing statistical analysis, and drafting reports. The most desirable skill set would include considerable experience in survey research. Some familiarity with transportations research projects is desired but not required.

Position Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities will include, but are not restricted to:

Project Management

• Manage interdisciplinary and cross-functional project teams; level of complexity and size will vary based on experience
• Understand project objectives and the requisite roles and function of each team member to effectively manage the activities of the team
• Act as focal person for client communication and assume responsibility for meeting client expectations
• Develop overall project management plans including resource plans, budgets, and timelines
• Manage project to adhere to project timelines and deliverables; manage project costs to adhere to budget
• Responsible for administrative oversight and paperwork related to projects (i.e., project start up forms, project budgets, subcontractor agreements, and monthly progress reports)
• Anticipate, identify and resolve problems; manage project changes and resource conflicts
• Support and use project templates and project tools effectively
• Ensure project team, including consultants, uphold PTV NuStats’ research and project delivery standards

Writing and Communication

• Write data analyses for research reports
• Preparing articles or presentations of research findings for presentation at relevant conferences or assisting others in preparing such documents
• Communicate relevant research findings at relevant meetings with clients and other important stakeholders in PTV NuStats’ business

Research Design and Analysis

• Lead or contribute to research design, methodology, and analysis (creating new practices, setting precedents, groundbreaking research)
• Stay abreast of field(s) of PTV NuStats’ research activity
• Contribute to business development activities to maintain PTV NuStats’ dominant areas of business and to extend PTV NuStats’ business into new and emerging areas of business, particularly into more advanced areas requiring higher analytical and intellectual resources
• Lead or contribute to proposals, and budgets for business development purposes

Essential Skills and Experience:

• Masters degree and 2-4 years relevant project management experience preferred
• Bachelors degree and/or 5 years of related experience required
• Relevant social science research consulting experience preferred
• Management of large-scale and complex research projects and research teams
• Experience in the development of project proposals and the preparation and oversight of project and program budgets preferred
• Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas: 

o        Management of complex projects

o        Statistical data analysis

o        Questionnaire design

o        Research methodology

o        Transportation research 

• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Able to exercise authority to act on a day-to-day decisions with minimal supervision
• Competent to work independently and/or lead and coordinate team activities
• Excellent interpersonal and strong team player attitude
